Chile - mining Production falls down 3,8 % in August

The mining production of Chile diminished 3,8 % last August, 2008 compared to the same month of 2007, informed today the National Institute of Statistics. This fall is explained by the low metal production like the molybdenum, gold and silver, which are obtained like by-products of the copper, which also a fall noted down as regards August, 2007, told the INE.

The production of metallic minerals fell down 4,3 % interannual in August, explained by a negative contribution of the index “Other Cash” of 3,18 %, while the index of the copper registered a descent of 1,2 %, contracting the indicator in 1,07 %.

As well as, the production of not metallic minerals noted down an interannual increase of 1,9 %, standing out rises in the cases of the saltpeter, iodine and salt, between others.

The production of thin copper reached 425.524 tons in August, with a decrease of 1,2 % (5.277 tons) compared to equal month of last year, principally for a fall in the laws of the mineral in some deposits of the country.

Between January and August the piled up production of thin copper added 3.555.376 tons, which suppose a decrease of 2,1 % with regard to equal period of 2007.

Of the whole of the copper produced in August, 51,3 % corresponded to cathodes.

The golden production, as, fell down 17,7 % interannual, on having added 2.861,4 kilos, while the silver production fell down 30,2 %, to 99.093,5 kilos and that of molybdenum lowered 32,9 %, to 2.476 tons, with regard to August, 2007.
