Madrid I Pray and Silver - temporary Exhibition 2010

The Regional Archaeological museum of the Community of Madrid receives from July 23, 2010 until September 19, 2010 the temporary exhibition “Gold and Silver. Luxury and distinction in the Hispanic antiquity”, produced by the Department of Culture of Spain. The sample offers an elegant selection of the treasures of ancient gold work that survive in the National Archaeological museum and that, with motive his partial closing for the works, could have gone out to the street.

The goods that are exhibited are treasures not only for the use of beautiful materials and for his esthetic quality, but also because they provide information of distant periods, in that the accumulation of luxurious elements was resembling the social distinction and the political or religious power.

The visit to the exhibition develops concerning a chronological trip for the gold work from the Prehistory up to the Roman conquest of the Iberian Peninsula across 7 thematic ambiences.

After a brief revision to the skills of the gold work that were used in the antiquity, the exhibition announces the pieces realized by the first peninsular goldsmiths - fundamentally in gold - from the Calcolítico up to his climax in the Final Bronze.

Next, there can be verified the esthetic and technical changes that had his origin in the establishment of Phoenician and Greek colonists.

Finally, the epoch of major accumulation of pieces of gold work in the antiquity corresponds at the Iron Age, both in the Mediterranean ambience and of the Plateau and of the peninsular Northwest, each one with proper characteristics, who drives to the threshold of the romanización.
